Traditional broadband seismometers do not have the range to measure strong seismic events and traditional strong motion sensors lack the sensitivity or stability to make good long-term measurements. High resolution measurements of earthquake shaking, tilts, Earth tides, slow slip events and geodesy are required over a time spectrum spanning fractions of a second to years The remarkable performance of these sensors is achieved through the use of a precision quartz crystal resonator whose frequency of oscillation varies with acceleration induced stress.<\/p>\n<p>The QA-30 and QA-15 triaxial accelerometers have a full-scale range of 3 g and 1.5 g respectively.<br \/>\nThe QA-30 is highly compact and has a high resonant\nfrequency (&gt;150 Hz). The QA-15 offers an order of\nmagnitude lower noise than the QA-30 and has a resonant frequency close to 25 Hz.<br \/>\nBoth sensors have an internal alignment matrix that uses the invariance of the Earth\u2019s gravity vector as a reference to measure seismic events and resultant earth movements.
